CCC CHAMPS!!!!!

04/28/08

Hello all! Sorry, again. It has been super long since you have heard from me but here I am. Only two more blogs left, so these are going to be packed full of information. GOOD news to report. The Salve Regina University Men’s Tennis Team officially won the Common Wealth Conference Championships. That is right folks’; last Saturday we beat Roger Williams (our rival) in the championship match. We won by a score of 8-1. Jason Lago, our captain, was the only one who lost. I felt super bad for him because it was his last conference match. Overall he had an awesome season though, so I hope that he doesn’t dwell on that one match. The last match to come off was another senior, Mike Collins. Mike won the first set, but lost the second, which meant that he had to play a tiebreaker to determine the match. In the end Mike came out big and won the match. We beat Roger Williams 5-4 during the regular season, so to come back and smoke them 8-1 felt amazing. After the match all the family and friends who came to support the team were invited to a barbeque next to the courts.  My parents as well as my grandmother came up so it was awesome to see them.

Since we won our conference our team gets an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament next weekend. Last year we were able to get a win in the tournament but lost to Williams in the second round. This year our first round is against a school from New York. If we beat that team we would play Emory in the second round. Emory lost in the National Championship last year so we have a HUGE match ahead of us. Wish us luck!

This is my last week of work. I am actually sitting at the tour guide desk in Ochre Court right now. For all of you guys and gals who will be taking tours next year, make sure to look out for me! Last week was a super busy week for tours and campus visits. There were close to 2,100 people on campus in two weeks. That has to be some sort of record.

Sunday was Lisa’s, my girlfriend, 21st birthday. Her family came up to Newport on Friday and took her out to dinner, and of course, I hoped on for the ride. I think that this is 213,435 blog that I have mentioned food, but one more. We went to an awesome restaurant called 22 Bowens. I got the best steak of my life that night; Steak au Poivre. It was cooked perfectly with an awesome cream sauce drizzled on top. Perfect!

So this is the last week of classes. I have mixed feelings about school ending. Yes, I love Branford in the summer and can’t wait to see all my friends that I didn’t see all year long. I can’t pass up going out in the boat every day after work. At the same time though I LOVE Newport, especially when it is warm out. In a way I wish I were staying here this summer because almost all the guys on the team will be here. They are all living in a house together right off of Thames Street. Also, Lisa will be staying here this summer so I there will be tons of opportunities for me to come up and catch some of the Newport summer rays. With finals week being next week, every student wants school just to be over. Who wants to be sitting in class with an exam on your desk when you look over and see the sun shinning and tons of people walking down the cliff walk?

Alright everyone, that is all for now. I will let you know how stressful next week is going to be with finals and update you on this weekends success in Maine with the NCAA tournament.
